7 Reasons You Are Resistant to Overcoming Depression

by Abigail Johnson Akingbade on April 25, 2012

Depression is a disease that affects your whole life. It affects your thoughts actions and even the results you get in life.

It is easier to stay depressed than to change because most people have become accustomed to living the lifestyle that their depression has inflicted upon them.

Change takes tremendous effort and determination.

It’s like the stories you hear of people who are addicted to cigarettes and can’t give it up. Addiction cripples them from being able to change.

Depression is similar in that you fear the possibility of happiness because being unhappy is your comfort zone and anything else seems foreign to you. You believe you are meant to be hopeless.

You are meant to be hopeful. You are meant to live with joy but you are resistant to change.

There are 7 specific reasons you are resistant to overcome your depression.

#1 Fear

You fear the thought of being happy because it requires you to change your current lifestyle.

You fear the unknown of what life would be like for you to be happy.

Change terrifies you because there are no guarantees in life.

To overcome depression you must defeat this fear but you are not willing to conquer it.

#2 Laziness

You are not willing to put in the work necessary to overcome depression.

You rather live below your potential and be mediocre because it’s comfortable and what you are used to doing.

To live permanently free from depression you must build all the energy you have and focus on what it takes for you to be happy.

#3 Doubt

You lack confidence in yourself that you can live any different from the way you have been living.

You doubt your capacity to get better.

You can get all the help in the world but without self-confidence you will never be happy.

It takes will power to set your mind to getting better and dispel the doubt within your mind.

#4 Egotistical

Your ego gets in the way of you admitting you are not happy because to do so means you have failed at something in your life.

You are driven to be perfect and admitting flaws means you are not perfect.

Get over your selfish pride and realize no one is perfect including you and this disease just means you have much growth to do in your spiritual emotional and physical health.

Look at it as a learning lesson rather than the end of the world.

#5 Greedy

You are unwilling to share your plights with others.

You isolate and hover to yourself to avoid being seen as weak or needy.

Overcoming depression permanently requires you to share with the necessary person who can help you your feelings and personal thoughts to get better.

#6 Ungrateful

You always seek more and never appreciate what you have.

Getting more brings emptiness and despair but you get it for prideful reasons.

Your intentions are impure because you seek to hoard rather than give for what you have received. Depression stems from a spiritual lacking within your soul thus to overcome it you must realize what satisfaction you currently have in your life.

You must be grateful and appreciate your life and the fact you are living.

#7 Impatient

You are impatient and change must happen immediately or you get frustrated and upset.

You think why not stay the same when changing takes too much time for you to get better. Overcoming depression takes time.

It does not happen overnight.

You must be patient because you have many issues and lifestyle choices you must deal with to live permanently free from depression

Being resistant does not mean you can’t live free from this disease.

Make a choice to live with joy today and everyday from now on.

Stick to your commitment to be better.

Get rid of your resistance.
