Is a plan deferred depressing?

by Abigail Johnson Akingbade on June 25, 2012

In a previous post, it was about reflecting on your aspirations when you are struggling. Having something you aspire to accomplish can keep you from severe depression. You find it comforting to know what you are doing can improve your life, and it’s motivation to get up everyday with a hopeful attitude.

Do you have a goal you are hoping to accomplish in the near future?

An aspiration you work towards turns into a plan of action. You take steps to achieve your goals with each tasks you complete. It’s a joy to wake up every day with an eagerness to achieve your desires.

However, most are living without goals. They go through life blowing in the wind without a mindful determined path to follow. If you are reading this post, most likely you want to get rid of your depressing attitude, but maybe your life has taken a turn in a direction you did not foresee.

Apart from those who have no goals to work on, there are those who have experienced the disappointment when a plan is deferred. There are many reasons for a plan to not work out and that’s not the focus of this post. The point is what if you are suffering from depression, because your goals seem unobtainable or you have settled for less than you desire and you have postponed your plans.

It’s disheartening to get stuck in a rut and get down about yourself when your hopes do not come to fruition. You feel like you’re swimming with the waves, but getting nowhere.

Are you a quitter?

Sometimes, it’s inevitable to avoid pitfalls. The important suggestion is to keep going and you will eventually see results. There are many unpredictable events that can occur, but commit in your mind to not shrink into despair.

Calm down for a while to recoup your energy and strength, but don’t you quit on your goals. Many people hit a bump traveling towards their goals that sends them into a severe depression. Use the mishap for a life lesson, and set a new course to pursue.

A life without depression is satisfying and fulfilling, because you actually enjoy it. It doesn’t feel like everyday you are walking alone in the desert in gloomy weather.

Most who are depressed become lazy, and slack off in their endeavors. The ability to work with a plan in mind brings fulfillment when you attain it.

Your family and friends may not be able to understand your pain. You may be misunderstood by other people in your need to heal. Therefore on your journey to emotional stability, strongly consider attending therapy and set a plan for your recovery with a mental health professional.

It is dangerous to try and heal your depression in silence. Please let someone know you are hurting. You have nothing to be embarrassed about, because this is a serious disease where medical assistance can give you relief from symptoms.

Thinking things will never get better is a depression symptom. The hurt can seem like it will never end, but it won’t last forever. You can rebound from this detour.

Don’t seek to take on many tasks rather do small tasks each day. Write down what you have accomplished, and congratulate yourself on completing it. Life gets difficult, so what, don’t stop making plans adjust your habits for a new path.

Conclusion

Many people let their deferred plans keep them living depressed. Discover a new course to heal and find joy.
